Gin started to unpack her things careful to stay on her side of the room not wanting to disturb whoever it was that was staying in this room before she got here. Hopefully the girl wouldn't mind Gin taking up the extra space. She finished quickly not having much to unpack really. A few books that ended up on the small table by her bed, two changes of clothes which were tucked safely in the trunk with her bag, and one single picture of her family before they were broken apart. Her whole life in one little bag. Gin looked it over and then headed to the window and glanced out for a bit.

Kill's boots thumped on the wood as he made his way through the woman's floor of the lodging house. The morning had been wet, cold and generally unpleasent, so it was nice to actually have somewhere he could come back to, instead of just wandering around on his feet all day. He was headed up to the roof for a smoke, interested in being alone, although he wouldn't have objected if a Miss O'Mahoney would have been up there again.
He didn't look into the open bunk rooms, except for the occasional passing glance. He was caught off gaurd when he saw the girl, her back turned to him. Kill hadn't actually been back at the lodging house for a few days. Things had gotten complicated, but he had noticed a few more names in the sign in log. He just hadn't seen anyone yet.
"When you'd get here?" He asked, pausing on his way to the much needed smoke. Kill could never pass up the chance to talk to a pretty girl anyway.

The voice startled her a bit as she turned quickly to see the origin. Gin took him in a bit before answering his question. "I've been here only a day." she stated softly her southern voice giving more away about herself than she may have wanted. "This isn't your room is it? I was told this was the girl's floor. I know there's another lodger I just haven't seen anyone else and I could have sworn this was the right room. I'll leave though..." She started to move back towards the bed she had semi claimed as hers.

Kill laughed quietly, shaking his head. He put a hand up to stop her. The girls in this house were so nervous. He wondered if he just had that affect on people.
"No, no," he spoke quickly. "This is your room. I'm one floor up, but I was on my way to the roof."
He liked her accent, it was almost musical. He didn't know very many people from the south, he'd spent his whole life either in Dublin, or New York.

Gin blushed a bit having been found in error. It took her a while to look back up at him he didn't seem to be laughing at her really...didn't stop the embarrassment. Once her cheeks had started to pail again into her normal tan color she looked back up at him. "The roof?" she asked

"Yeah, the roof." He gestured behind himself to the hall. "I guess we ain't supposed to go up there, but it's the best place to grab a smoke."
He pulled a cigarette from his pocket and held it up, as though it were proof. "What's your name then?"

"Kill Kilpatrick," he extended his hand to her, that wry smile still curling her lips. He never got tired of seeing people react to his name, but who knew. Maybe she would surprise him and not react at all. He doubted it.

Surely she didn't hear what she thought she heard. Her brother had mentioned the weird names of the peopel in this city. They were nicknames...Kill? "I'm sorry?" she asked hoping he'd repeat saying something other than what she thought she had heard.

Better than he expected. Most people tried to just ignore it, as though they were used to such peculiar titles, but this girl obviously wasn't.
"Kill. Just a nickname lass, no need to be wary." He was still smiling. It wasn't that Kill liked that most people were afraid of him, or at least suspicious, he just liked the strange faces they made when they attempted not to ask him how he'd gotten it.

"That's quite a nickname to not be wary of..." she commented looking him over he didn't seem so threatening...at least not for her.

"I know," he shrugged sheepishly. "But everyone has something around here. Tends to be safer than handing out your god given name to every stranger you meet on the street." Kill put his hand, shaking his head, "not that you have anything to worry about Miss."
He knew he probably wasn't doing a very good job of welcoming her to the city, but better knowledgable and scared than ignorant and dead, right?
"You must have some sort of nickname your friends called you back home."

"Well, then we're in the same boat, aren't we?" Kill grinned at her. "You're called Gin, because your name is Virginia, yes? Not because you have a fondness for the drink. And I am called Kill, because my surname is Kilpatrick." He spread his hands as though it were obvious.
"Simple as that."

Gin smiled clearing relaxing a little. "They could have found a better form of your name though." she said with a soft laugh.
