She had put her bag in the first room, picked a bed, unpacked about half of her few belongings, and quickly grown bored with the whole thing. Remembering that the house was, in fact, still empty, Molly decided to take the opportunity to explore.
First she peeked in each of the other woman's rooms, which was unexciting, as they were all virtually the same. Then she went up to the men's floor. She stepped as lightly as was possible in her boots, aware that it probably wasn't a good idea to be in that area - but it was empty, and she was so curious. A short look wouldn't hurt.
It didn't hurt. It didn't do anything. The men's rooms, probably because they were so empty, held no interest for her. She opened and then quickly closed the door to the men's washroom - that was taking it a step too far.
And then she noticed the other door... one that wasn't mirrored on the women's floor.
Naturally, she went to it. It was unlocked and opened with an ominous creak. The stairs behind it were dark, but at the top was the thin, rectangular line of bright light that could only mean one thing.
Molly grinned, hitched her skirts up a bit, and began to climb the stairs.
The rooftop wasn't anything too remarkable - a few forgotten plants, some trash, a broken bottle across the way - but the view was nice, and the air was clear. After a quick glance to make sure she was alone, Molly drew a cigarette from her skirt and surreptitiously lit it with a kitchen match.
She looked at the cigarette, then the view, then took a quick drag and exhaled the smoke with a sigh. If her mother could see her now...

Kill stood in the doorway for a long minute before stepping out onto the roof. He'd just been climbing the stairs when he'd caught a glimpse of the girl scamper up the narrow stair case in a flurry of skirts. He hadn't noticed that door before, and had followed her, intrigued.
So she was a smoker, some how he wasn't surprised. Although it didn't seem as though she wanted anyone to know, otherwise she would have just gone out front like everyone else did.
Kill stepped up behind her, careful to make noise as he walked so as not to startle her.
"Can't bum a smoke, can I?"

She froze, eyes wide. She was pretty sure she recognized the voice, but a quick glance over her shoulder confirmed it.
"Um," she said eloquently. Mentally kicking herself - and wondering why he was up there in the first place - she found another cigarette and passed it to him with as little eye contact as possible. She felt a blush rising to her cheeks once again and groaned inwardly.
The cigarette between her fingers was suddenly unappetizing, but, try as she might, she couldn't come up with a good excuse to leave the roof, especially when it was so clear that she'd only just arrived.

Kill laughed quietly and took the cigarette graciously. He couldn't remember the last time he'd made anyone so anxious. He lit the cigarette and took a long, gratifying drag. He made a pleased noise and closed his eyes for a minute. He needed to start making enough to be able to afford cigarettes again.
"I didn't come up here to push you off or nothing," he reassured her. "Just wanted to see what it was like. And ask your name."
That same amused smile graced his lips and he thingyed his head to one side, watching the back of her head while he waited.
((OOC: Umm...that would be "He c-o-c-k-e-d his head to one side"))

"It's Molly," she said, finally turning to face him fully. The cigarette was burning down, but she couldn't be bothered with it. "Molly O'Mahoney." She attempted a smile next, but it was a daunting task. He was very tall, and despite his kind eyes and their laugh lines... well, intimidating. He had an air about him that commanded respect. She wanted to know just why that was.

"Very nice to meet you, Molly." He took a half step forward and extended his hand to her. The grin remained as he told her his own name, guessing what her reaction would be.
"You can call me Kill. I'm harmless though, just a name."
She was a pretty little thing, he thought, if as jumpy as a dormouse. He was a good deal taller than her and had to bend to meet her shy eyes.

Her smile widened, if only because she didn't know what else to do. Kill? What kind of sick joke was that?
"it's a pleasure to meet you, Mr... Kill," she said, picking up her manners from where they had apparently scattered when she'd fallen in the lobby.
Remembering her cigarette, she took a long drag and sighed again. It may not have been polite, but she was standing unchaperoned on a rooftop with a man who called himself "Kill." The tobacco was the least of her worries. Not really one for small talk (at least not when put on the spot, and certainly not with tall strangers), she focused on the view in an attempt to appear occupied.

Kill laughed loudly and shook his head, putting up one hand to stop her.
"Nah, lass. Just Kill. My last name's Kilpatrick, so if you're going to insist on Mr. you should go with that one."
He was content to fall into silence after that, still chuckling to himself quietly. Mr. Kill...imagine writing that on an envelope. He took another drag off the cigarette before pinching out the burning end and tucking it in his pocket. He was too poor and too addicted to burn down a free cigarette in one go. He could make it last, until he got his own.

She had noticed that Mr. Kilpatrick quite enjoyed laughing at her. She watched intently from the corner of her vision as he took care to save the cigarette for another time. How curious.
She was pretty sure he caught her staring at him, so she looked back out on the adjacent rooftops, not really seeing, just thinking.
"Seems like a nice place," she said quietly, and tilted her head in the direction of the door. She would have to work on that eye contact thing. It usually wasn't a problem, but she found herself suddenly shy and withdrawn in his presence.
If they were to be living together, this could complicate things a great deal.

"It does." He nodded once, hands in his pockets. Kill took a deep breath of the fresh air, enjoying the view of the city. It was a rare day when it got this clear, although the wind was still rather bitter. He didn't mind it though.
Kill half turned to venture back down into the Lodging House, unsure of how he was going to spend the rest of his day. "Although I'm hopin' your cooking improves things bit," he said as he made his way to the door, referencing the conversation he'd over heard while out on the front stoop. He winked at her over his shoulder.
"I'll leave you to your peace, Miss Molly. But don't be shy."
